The Georgia Dept. of Human Resources has added new immunization requirements for childcare and school attendance effective July 1, 2007. These requirements included a second dose of varicella (chickenpox) vaccine or proof of disease for any child entering kindergarten, 6th grade or a Georgia school for the first time. Currently the varicella vaccine is in short supply resulting in long lines at immunization providers offices and delays in issuing the a completed Certificate of Immunization (form 3231).
City Schools of Decatur will follow the recommendation issued today from the Office of the State Superintendent. Children who cannot receive the second dose of Varicella vaccine because of the limited supply will be allowed to enter school and receive the
second dose when vaccine supplies stabilize. Form 3231 with a future expiration date will be honored, with the understanding that a student may be unable to receive the second dose of Varicella vaccine prior to school starting.
